In patients with a cow’s milk protein allergy, the presence of these allergens in medicines, even trace amounts, can trigger serious allergic reactions. The study milk-related excipient prevalence 165 antiasthmatic based on information included Summary Product Characteristics, revealed lactose more than one third medicines. Since may suffer cross-contamination protein, results are an alert to health professionals.

Intestinal biopsies were performed in 31 infants with cow's milk protein intolerance. Mucosal damage was constant, partial villous atrophy being the most usual finding. Though these changes are nonspecific, small intestinal biopsy can be a useful investigation in these patients. With a milk-free diet, recovery of normal mucosal appearence is reached between 3 and 13 months.
